heart and soul of your company
What is the purpose of your website?
Are you looking to generate awareness, sell products or services, or use it as a contact point?
Know your goals! They will dictate the type and style of your site, and ultimately its success.
When shopping for your domain name, have your credit card on hand and BUY! A few people who didn't, returned to find "their pick" owned by a "re-seller", now offering it for sale for hundreds of dollars.
Do you need an online presence?
Domain names are inexpensive, costing around $12 per year, while hosting costs about $60 per year—so the ongoing costs are inexpensive.
Map out your site on paper, then create your text in MSWord or WordPerfect. Of course you will need graphics and pictures. If you don't have your own, they can be purchased for $2-$5 each, also inexpensive. Your website can be as simple, or as complex as you choose.
Mail forwarding comes with most domain/hosting packages. Use "firstname.lastname@example.org" for each employee or department. Even a micro-business can benefit from showing a "sales@", "info@", "name@"--with all of them being forwarded to your regular e-mail account. You can "painlessly" move or change your Internet Service Provider (eg. Telus, Shaw...) seemlessly.
